“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11
Majority of the time, we want control. It’s in our nature to want control: control of our lives, control of this world, control of our neighbors, control of our friends, control of the good and bad, control of everything…
But, as Jeremiah 29:11 says, our God has plans for us. He has plans for every step in our life; whether we think it’s good or bad, it’s put in place by our Father for a reason.
We are all living on this earth for a certain period of time, right? We are just “passing by.” Knowing that we won’t be on this earth forever makes us want control even more. However, we must strive to have the mindset and KNOW that we are here because our Father brought us into this world. Each and every single one of us is helping to build the Kingdom of God. This world is lost. It seems as though it becomes more lost everyday. We get sucked into social media and politics, earthly things. That’s not what we were designed for. God created us in His image, each with our own gifts, to do work throughout the earth. To spread His truth and His word. THAT’S our purpose. That purpose leads to our plan. Many of us aspire to plan out our lives. We know the trends of the world and want to achieve those trends as well. We want to be “trendy.” We aspire to go to this huge Ivy League school. We aspire to play professional sports. We aspire to get that dream job and make millions. We aspire to live in a big modern farmhouse with a white picket fence, a pool, and a bunch of kids and pets running around. We aspire the “perfect life.” But I think the perfect life is more than that. The perfect life is what God has planned for me. It may not be what I dream for at night, but it is what He needs from me. Through trusting in that plan for Him, I know I am going to grow in Him the most and bring more people to Christ. And that’s the ultimate goal… to grow the Kingdom of Christ.
I pray that you would see the goodness in the plans Christ has for you, not in the plans you have for yourself.
Let’s pray. Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for bringing me into this world. And I thank You for never giving up on me. I pray that I would seek You in all things, and not turn to earthly things. We are on this earth for a limited time that we do not know exactly. In that time we wish to fulfill certain goals and dreams that are not of You. So, I pray that You would be our priority in this earthly life. That we would seek YOUR plan, and not our own. You have plans for me. I know that You do. I pray that I would have a clear mind and clear eyes in my search to fulfill that plan You have set forth for me. I pray this all in Jesus’ name, Amen.
